The Italian language is spoken in Italy, San Marino and the Vatican city. It is one of the main languages in Switzerland alongside French, German and Romansh. There are some minority parts of the Croatian coast and Slovenia where it is still spoken.

Why learn Italian

Since I was young I was always fascinated by the fact we use words to communicate and that some people didn’t use the same words. Apple in English, “maçã” in Portuguese. Both represent the simple idea of a red fruit, which can be eaten raw and it’s sweet.

As I got older and started to understand each person could communicate the same idea with different sounds, I was curious on learning how to communicate with other people in their own native language.

That was my main motivation to start learning languages.

How will I learn Italian

The closest languages to Italian that I know are either Spanish or Portuguese. Since Portuguese is my native language, it makes sense to start a book that teaches Italian in Portuguese because a lot of words are similar. E.g. “gatto” (cat) in Italian is “gato” in Portuguese. See how close they are together?

There is a book that I have got many good recomendations in Portuguese to learn Italian named “Italiano do zero: Guia completo e prático para iniciantes” (Italian from zero: a full and practical guide to learn Italian for beginners)
